The Credit Commandment | Legacy & Luxury Edition
I was looking at my financial dashboard this morning and realized that in 2026, a high credit score isn’t just about a “good number”…it is a certificate of freedom and financial integrity. It is the difference between asking for permission and giving yourself a green light.
As we move deeper into our Legacy & Luxury month, we have to talk about the “Credit Commandment.” For the Scholar Goddess, economic sovereignty is the backbone of our soft life. We can’t truly stay in our “follicular vision” or our “menstrual rest” if we are constantly stressed about the numbers. We’ve seen the way this administration and the global economy can shift overnight, which is why our 92% power has to be rooted in a fortress of financial health.
The History of the Black Dollar
We come from a lineage of women who had to be the bankers, the accountants, and the investors when the literal banks wouldn’t even let them through the door. During Black History Month, I’ve been reflecting on the incredible efforts of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. who didn’t just wait for the system to change…they built their own. Their creation of the For Members Only (FMO) Federal Credit Union is a lesson in legacy building. It is the first Black-owned, Black woman-led, historically Black sorority-based credit union.
That is the energy we are bringing into 2026. If the table isn’t set for us, we build the bank that owns the building.

Building the Financial Fortress
Economic justice starts at home. Here is how we implement the Amara financial standard:
The Score as Strategy: Your credit score is your reputation in the language of the system. Protect it like you protect your Gilded Perimeter. Pay the bills on time, keep your utilization low, and treat your credit limit as a tool for leverage, not a lifestyle subsidy. When your score is high, you have the power to say “no” to predatory terms and “yes” to the property or business that will house your legacy.
Circulate Within the Sisterhood: Following the lead of FMO, we have to be intentional about where our coins land. Before you click “buy” on a corporate giant, ask if there is a sister-owned business or a Black-owned institution that can fulfill that need. Economic sovereignty is a team sport.
The Freedom Fund: In our “Business Billionaire History” class, we learned that the most successful moguls always had liquidity. Ensure you are building your “Freedom Fund”: the money that allows you to walk away from a “Tariq” or a toxic job without blinking. Peace of mind is the ultimate luxury, and it’s much easier to maintain when your bank account is healthy.
Sistahs, don’t let the technical talk intimidate you. You are a Goddess with the intellectual capacity to master anything; including your coins. When we take control of our credit and our capital, we aren’t just “budgeting”; we are preparing for a future where we are the ones signing the checks.
Stay feminine, stay focused, and remember: Your financial health is a form of self-love. You are a Goddess who knows that wealth is a tool for impact, and your sovereignty is non-negotiable. You’re just a woman, but the world is reshaped by the economic power you choose to wield.
With love,
