The Hallow’s Eve Reflection: Entering the Darker Months
Listen, sis! We’ve had a month. Or let me speak for myself. From the high-energy “Homecoming Glow” to the deep, mysterious nights where we let our Dominique La’Rue energy take the lead, October has been a whole journey. But as the costumes go back into the cedar chests and the pumpkins start to fade, there’s a different kind of shift happening in the air. We are moving out of the naughty playfulness of Halloween and stepping into the quiet, introspective months of late autumn.
As a creator who’s spending my days building my brand, I’ve learned that the darker months aren’t something to fear. They are a divine invitation to bring that light we’ve been shining outward back into our own souls. It’s time to move from the performance back into the polish; channeling our inner Whitley Gilbert to organize our vision for the end of the year.

The Transition: From Shadow to Sanctuary, the transition from October to November is where the real growth happens. It’s when we take the lessons from our Shadow and Soul nights and integrate them into our daily walk.
- Audit Your Atmosphere: We spent the month exploring different roles, but as we enter November, it’s time to clear the stage. Just like I’m currently refining my “Beautifully Broken” project, I want you to look at your space. Does it still feel like a sanctuary? Remove the clutter from the busy weeks so you can have a clean slate for the gratitude season ahead.
- The Intellectual Pivot: We’ve played with the naughty nurse and the high-speed race car driver, but now we’re getting back to the “Scholar Goddess” grind. Whether you’re deep in an academic case study; like the one I’m doing on Augusta Savage; or just trying to stay on top of your semester, use this week to realign your focus. Black Excellence doesn’t take a holiday.
- Harvesting the Lessons: Think back on those moments where you felt most like yourself this month. Was it when you were commanding the room in your costume, or when you were quiet in your “Midterm Sanctuary”? Both are part of you. The goal is to carry the confidence of Dominique with the standards of Whitley into everything you do next.
Entering the Internal Light
As the sun starts setting earlier, don’t let the darkness outside make you feel dim. Use this time for the deep work. In my world, this is the season for the “Meeting of the Minds” and technical resets. It’s the time to plan the next couture line or map out the next year of content. When the world gets quiet, that’s when a Goddess can finally hear her own voice clearly.
Take tonight to just be. No costumes, no roles, just you and your reflections. You’ve navigated the scene with grace, you’ve protected your peace, and now you’re ready to bloom in the cold.
Stay feminine, stay focused, and remember: Your internal light is what defines the season. You are a Goddess who knows that the darker months are simply a canvas for your most brilliant reflections, and your soul is the sun. You’re just a woman, but the world finds its warmth in the depth of the light you carry within.
With love,
