The Post-Decision Glow: Tips To Reclaiming Your Energy
I was sitting with a heavy heart today, reflecting on the collective sigh we all let out on Tuesday night. The atmosphere feels different now, and for many of us, the mask has officially slipped. It is one thing to know the reality of racism embedded in this world; it is a quite another thing to see it so clearly validated on a global stage. Watching my first major election, I realized that we aren’t just processing political loss…we are processing a deep cultural rejection of the progress we represent.
But I want us to look at the numbers and find our pride! We are the 92%! Black women showed up with a level of consciousness, discipline, and vision that the rest of the country simply couldn’t match. We are the most consistent, most educated, and most intentional voting bloc in existence, and that is a badge of honor, not a sign of defeat. We made history even if we didn’t win the race. We stood for excellence while others chose a different path. Even about 25% of our black men folded and I know it’s disappointing. Even in the face of this outcome, we are apart of history because we refused to compromise on our standards and our hope.
I keep coming back to the spirit of Shirley Chisholm this morning. She was “unbought and unbossed” long before it was a trend. She once said that “tremendous amounts of talent are being lost to our society just because that talent wears a skirt.” Kamala Harris didn’t just wear the skirt; she wore the mantle of everything Chisholm started. She built a room where there wasn’t even a hallway before. We are the daughters of that lineage along with Harriet Tubman, and that kind of legacy doesn’t disappear just because of one election cycle.

Now that the intensity of the election is behind us, I’ve been feeling a major shift in the atmosphere and maybe you all felt it this morning, too. Whether you’re a high school student finding your voice or in your early twenties navigating your first career, these past few days have been heavy for all of us. As the founder of the Alona Leoine Foundation, my mission is always to help us build a solid base, but you can’t build anything stable if your own energy is depleted.
I’m really leaning into my inner Whitley Gilbert this week by being incredibly intentional about my environment. After all the noise of the campaigns and the news cycles, I’ve realized that my peace is a premium asset. It’s not something I just give away. When I’m working on new sketches for Alona Leoine Couture, I need a space that feels like a sanctuary, not a war room. And if this is also you, my following tips are for you!
Tips For Deep Healing for the Scholar Goddess
We cannot afford to stay in a state of mourning forever. We have work to do, and that work starts with how we tend to our own souls. To my sisters navigating this, especially those of you in your late teens and early twenties who feel like the future just got darker…here is how we move through this with depth:
- Ancestral Grounding: Our grandmothers and great-grandmothers navigated worlds far more hostile than this one without losing their minds or their magic. You carry their DNA. When you feel weak, tap into that ancient resilience. We have survived every “winter” this country has thrown at us, and we will survive this one, too.
- Economic Fortification: If the world doesn’t want to value us, we must value each other. This is the time to be hyper-intentional with your coins and your click-to-view. Support a Black woman-owned business, invest in a sister’s dream, and build our own internal economy. We have to be each other’s safety net and each other’s bank.
- Protect Your “Gilded Perimeter”: Do not waste your divine energy trying to explain your humanity to people who have already shown you they don’t value it. You are under no obligation to be the “educator” for a world that chooses ignorance. Tighten your circle and stay close to those who see your light.
- The Radical Act of Joy: In a world that expects you to be “the strong Black woman” carrying the weight of the world, choosing to be soft, happy, and feminine is a form of protest. We are not taking to the streets anymore. We are going to let them swallow each other up and preserve ourselves. Don’t let the political climate steal your ability to laugh or your desire to be beautiful.
- Filter Your Feed: If an account doesn’t inspire you to grow or make you feel seen, it’s okay to hit that unfollow button. If you’re see way too much about the election results and ignorant or hateful content towards us, make sure you hit that button to let social platforms know you don’t like the content so that it starts to give you other things. Your digital space is just as important as your physical one.
- The Power of Silence: Take thirty minutes tonight to just sit without your phone. No music, no scrolling, just your own thoughts. A woman who is comfortable in her own silence is a woman who is hard to rattle.
- Return to the Ritual: Go back to the things that make you feel like a Goddess. For me, it’s grabbing $6.99 roses from Meijers, giving myself a long skincare routine, a warm shower with eucalyptus aroma, and writing a fresh set of goals in my planner.
One of the most important skills we can develop is knowing when to unplug. I’m channeling my inner Whitley Gilbert to stay organized and focused on my goals, but I’m keeping that Dominique La’Rue mystery close to my chest. We don’t need to announce every move we make; we just need to make sure we are moving together. We are entering a season of gratitude and growth, and I want us to enter it with our heads held high and our spirits intact. You are the visionary of your own life, and the work you’re doing on yourself is the most important work there is.We are going to make it through because we have always made it through. Our brilliance is not up for debate, and our future is still ours to design.
Stay feminine, stay focused, and remember: Your worth is not determined by a ballot. You are a Goddess whose power is rooted in a history of overcoming, and your resilience is a sacred act. You’re just a woman, but the world is reshaped by the quiet strength of your resolve.
With love,
