The College Royal Guard : Navigating The Scene w/Grace

Let’s talk about the “college experience.” The parties, the mixers, the late nights. It’s all part of the story, but it’s not the whole book. To live in your world with agency, you have to know how to navigate the scene without losing your focus or your safety.

I call this “The Royal Guard”. The boundaries we set to protect our future selves.

  • The Party Protocol: Have fun, but never lose your crown. Go out with a “village” you trust, keep your eyes on your drink, and always have an exit strategy. A Goddess knows when the vibe has shifted and isn’t afraid to be the first one to suggest leaving.
  • The Drama-Free Zone: Drama is a distraction. If a situation starts to feel messy or dangerous, remove yourself gracefully. You have too much to accomplish to get caught up in someone else’s storm.
  • The Academic Anchor: Never let a Saturday night ruin a Monday morning. Enjoy the music and the dancing, but remember that your primary mission is…Your Black Excellence. The party is a guest in your life; your education is the foundation.

The Move: Before you head out this weekend, set a curfew for your peace. Know exactly how much energy you’re willing to give to the night, and keep the rest for your aspirations and dreams.

And remember! STAY IN THE BLUE (for the non-Michigan students…basically…don’t get drunk).
